Ms. Vera Dorofeeva, Russia
Professor, PhD, Chancellor of the Vaganova Ballet Academy (2004-2013)

“Aleksei Fomkin is a specialist whose achievements in the sphere of education were proven by consistent national recognition and acknowledged in this field by extensive documentation. The Vaganova Ballet Academy was instructed by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation to lead the reform of education and subsequently integrated it into the entire system of choreographic education in the country. Transferring Russian education to the Bologna system meant a profound and many-sided transformation of then-existing education programs and operation principles of educational institutions. The same task was set for choreographic education. The system of choreographic education in Russia comprises more than 40 educational institutions implementing more than 90 education programs of different levels.

For this purpose, the Academy established a special organization named the Educational and Methodological Association of Education in the Field of the Art of Choreography (EMA). To manage its work, according to the order of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, we appointed Mr. Fomkin, Vice-Rector of the Academy for Teaching and Learning, who also became the secretary of the Coordinating Council for Education in Culture and Arts established by the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation.  Aleksei Fomkin developed the unique state project for reforming the system of choreographic education under requirements of the Bologna Process.”

“Aleksei Fomkin regularly visited institutions of higher education in Russia and Europe (more than 100 business trips) to discuss and test this project and make reports at numerous conferences.  After having been considered during the tender, the project was approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, and Aleksey Fomkin was instructed to monitor its implementation.

Aleksei Fomkin’s intellectual and organizational abilities made him one of the most prominent figures in Russian education. Mr. Fomkin’s work was recognized as successful and he was expectedly invited to join the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation (by personal invitation from the Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation)”.

“In my opinion, the results of Aleksei Fomkin’s work and his professional expertise will guarantee a higher quality of training for future ballet dancers and the development of the national dance school in the USA”.
